STAGING PROJECT

You will each be assigned to a team to create appropriate movement or blocking for each song we will perform for the Showcase.

This project is worth 50 points. Criteria will include:

Brainstorming - 6 points
On Friday, January 22, you will divide into groups to begin brainstorming ideas for your assigned song.  Delegate tasks to each member of the group. Decide who will present the blocking to the class. Decide who will draw the stage plots, etc. Everyone must participate.

Workshop It - 6 points
On Wednesday, January 27, each group will workshop their created blocking using rehearsal tracks. Determine any problem areas. Make sure that any soloists or featured singers are highlighted to assist audience in knowing who is singing (adlibs do not necessarily have to be featured). Stage plots must be written down and turned in as a part of your group project. (criteria continued below)

Creativity - 6 points - Is it different, yet effective? Is it inventive, interesting?  What college a cappella videos have you watched to gain inspiration? What ideas of your own can you incorporate?

Style - 6 points - Does the movement or blocking fit the style? Is there too much movement? Not enough? is there enough variety without being too complex? Does it evoke a feel associated with a particular era or genre? Can rhythmically-challenged members of the group perform the movement? Remember that a simple move, cleanly executed is often more interesting that a hot mess of movement. (criteria continued below)

Written Stage Plot - 6 points - (IN INK) for each section of the song with initials clearly written for each formation. These will be posted on the website for reference.

Presentation - 6 points (clear instruction to class for each segment of the blocking). There may be a different presenter for different segments.

Efficiency - 6 points - Can you teach the blocking within the time allocated? Do others in the group monitor time/progress, keeping class quiet and attentive?

Quality - 8 points - What is the overall quality of the blocking. Is is simple, but exceptional? Is it fun and engaging? Is it interesting? Is it reverant? Does it convey what is appropriate?

To conceive, plan,  and present blocking for the stage is more challenging than you may expect. It is important to work through any obstacles and practice your presentation. This should be a group effort. You will receive a group grade.
